Nautical weddings
Weddings on the water attract a certain type of couple. Those who love being outdoors and being surrounded by endless water scenery! We've been doing lots of waterfront weddings and they are becoming some of my favorites. Here's a wonderful portrait by the water at Celebrations at the Bay by fabulous wedding photographer Lauren R Swann If you want to see more of this gorgeous couple Lauren captured their love in photos here Lauren R. A completely different look was realized for Kristin and Matt with their choice of bright corals, pinks, and yellows with a dash of turquoise to match the water seen from the Anchor Inn.
Flowers whether soft and romantic or vivid and bright look amazing against a nautical backdrop.

Happy Valentine's Anniversary to Maryland wedding couple
Last year DellaBlooms was designing a bouquet, floral crown for a lovely bride who'd just arrived from England. She and her groom met in LA and it's a very long story but finally she was coming back to the US to marry her sweetheart. Snow was in the forecast and the predictions were right; there was so much snow the intended ceremony site, the Annapolis Courthouse was closed.
Ryan had their rings engraved with 2/14/14 so this wedding HAD to happen on this day. Sobrina, the lovely bride was ready, the flowers were ready, the photographer was set, and the family was so excited for this day to arrive. After much scrambling Ryan contacted his pastor and the bed and breakfast in town where they planned to spend the weekend. The proprietor at the B&B said, "Yes!" and the pastor said, "Yes!" Plan B to the rescue!
Happy anniversary Sobrina and Ryan!

Winter wonderland wedding
At the end of 2014 I had the privilege to design flowers for a woman I first met as a little girl. This little girl was in a third grade Sunday School class I taught quite a few year ago.
I remember she had the best dimples and she still does.
Elizabeth married the love of her life at the Antrim 1844 Country House in Taneytown in December.

Elizabeth was such a beautiful bride and I pray she and Ryan enjoy many, many wonderful married years together.

From our initial meeting of sharing ideas to the delivery I find more reasons to be grateful to you who've chosen me to design your wedding flowers for your special day.

The DellaBloomies ready to help you plan your wedding
As DellaBlooms' 2013 fall wedding season wrapped up, we went out with a bang with not one, but two wedding shows back to back. We had all hands on deck for these events and they were a smashing success! The first show was at Shade Trees & Evergreens, where Clancy's wedding was held this summer. The weather was a perfect day for being outside in the picturesque hills of Frederick, MD.
The second show was hosted by the Red Carpet Bridal Tours. We set up at the first stop, Historic Oakland in Columbia, and at Circle D Farm in Western Howard County. Clancy and her friend Alissa were asked to wear their wedding gowns, of course they were thrilled to wear their dresses a second time! Thanks to labirdiephotography for being at the second show to snap some pictures. Dana also had the opportunity to speak on the panel at the end of the wedding show about current wedding trends and flowers. Check back soon for a post to see just what those trends are!

Take time to smell the roses
Less than an hour away from the shop is a garden tucked away and hidden behind large entrance gates. Last year I took my mom and daugther to Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens for mom's birthday celebration. I was astounded by it's beauty and majesty. From the website: "Marjorie Merriweather Post bought Hillwood in 1955 and soon decided her home would be a museum that would inspire and educate the public. Her northwest Washington, D.C. estate endowed the country with the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia, a distinguished 18th-century French decorative art collection, and twenty-five acres of serene landscaped gardens and natural woodlands for all to enjoy. Opened as a public institution in 1977, today Hillwood's allure stems from the equally fascinating parts that make up the whole. From the captivating life of Marjorie Post to the exquisitely maintained Mansion and Gardens, the experience of Hillwood outshines even the Fabergé Eggs."
The floral designer who works on staff creates along with volunteers, fabulous arrangements placed throughout the rooms in the mansion. Here this one is shown on a grand piano surrounded by photos of former presidents. See John F. and Jackie to the right of the flowers?
The rose garden was one of my favorite sections of the garden. Each one was fragrant and color saturated.
What would a birthday celebration be without a stop at Georgetown Cupcakes to grab a treat for the road trip home. Yum!
Last weekend we returned to Hillwood for one of their Serene Sunday's. It was Mother's Day and when asked what I'd like to do for the day, Hillwood came to mind. The cafe on the grounds served tea which was the perfect break during our touring of the grounds. The roses were not yet blooming due to this crazy cold spring, but I'm hoping they'll be opened next weekend when I return for a floral design class with my friend Madeline.
