Springtime

So happy the bulbs are pushing through the ground and there are no more imminent forecasts of snow.  Thinking of spring weddings and dreaming up bouquets and reception arrangements here in our studio.  Happy Spring wedding planning!

Happy Valentine's Anniversary to Maryland wedding couple

Last year DellaBlooms was designing a bouquet, floral crown for a lovely bride who'd just arrived from England.  She and her groom met in LA and it's a very long story but finally she was coming back to the US to marry her sweetheart.  Snow was in the forecast and the predictions were right; there was so much snow the intended ceremony site, the Annapolis Courthouse was closed.
Ryan had their rings engraved with 2/14/14 so this wedding HAD to happen on this day.  Sobrina, the lovely bride was ready, the flowers were ready, the photographer was set, and the family was so excited for this day to arrive.  After much scrambling Ryan contacted his pastor and the bed and breakfast in town where they planned to spend the weekend.    The proprietor at the B&B said, "Yes!" and the pastor said, "Yes!"  Plan B to the rescue!

Thank you DellaBlooms brides in Maryland

Thank you to all our 2014 brides and grooms who allowed me to continue to pursue my passion.  I get excited about each and every wedding as they are all so unique.  From our initial meeting of sharing ideas to the delivery I find more reasons to be grateful to you who've chosen me to design your wedding flowers for your special day.

Farewell to our Faithful Friend

With heavy hearts and soggy eyes, we said farewell to our faithful shop dog in early November.  Shadow was the designated manager, because she would sit at the top of the shop steps where she could see each of us working.  It wasn't until later in her life that she began watching us work.  But when she discovered the perch at the top of the steps, nothing could tear her away from it.  No matter the temperature indoors or out, we left the door open for our furry supervisor.  She watched intently as we processed flowers, designed, and cleaned.  There was something about her companionship in the shop that added a calmness to our hectic wedding weekends.  Her steady gaze of approval was often just what we needed to keep on.  On certain days she requested to come into the shop.  Since she couldn't walk down the steps, this required a trip through the front door and into the garage.  She stopped to sniff each bucket of blooms and requested a head pat no matter how many stems were in your hands.  She plopped down, right in the line of traffic because she just needed to be in the middle of the action, and I imagine the cold cement floor felt good on her belly those hot summer work days...

The shop will never be quite the same without sweet Shadow girl watching our every move.

Weddings + Baltimore

The shop has been a busy place lately, but I'm enjoying coming up for air and remembering to post from some beautiful spring and summer weddings.  It's so fun to relive some of our favorites weddings.  Here are two very different weddings in colors and venues.
The photographer, Amy Vanicky took this close-up of the bride's bouquet and I just can't get enough of it.  Soft shades of lavender and pink with some texture from berries and veronica were the colors for this May wedding at Antrim 1844 Inn in Taneytown, MD.
The teardrops constructed for the doors paired nicely with the boxwood wreaths and carried out the wedding theme.
Tables for the reception alternated in highs and lows for centerpieces which always makes the room look wonderful.  Antique lavender pintuck is always a winner for linens when using soft hues.  Here they're shown with lavender napkins.
Antrim 1877 has wonderful gardens and here the bride and groom stand in the midst of peonies ready to pop! Elena and Shane were great to work with and knew just the look they wanted for their day.
The bride's maids dresses were a luscious Ocean Blue backdrop for white Anemones, Amnesia roses and scabiosa pods.

Then June brought a vibrant, colorful couple who married at Tabrizi's on the waterfront in Baltimore.  Love these Rock Star roses mixed with David Austin's, sprays and green hypericum berries.

This groom was cool, calm and collected as he enjoyed the views of the waterfront while waiting for his beautiful bride.  What a stunning day to get married with the harbor as a background.
Kyle Bergner Photography always makes our flowers look spectacular!  Here are the bride's and bride's maids bouquets waiting for their moment to shine.
Escort card display was a special request of the groom.  When we met and he saw photos he said, "I don't care what else we do, but we HAVE to have this!" The river rocks add texture and contrast to the bright roses and callas.
Here's the front view showing the cards awaiting their guests.
Harborview Room upstairs at Tabrizi's is a great reception room with lots of light.  Here our cylinders were pools of water with flowers of the day at varying heights topped by candles.

Yes, I do have the best job in the world; working with brides to make their wedding day uniquely theirs.  Stay tuned there are more wedding photos to come! In the meantime we'll be in the shop planning for the holidays.

The Cost of Wedding Flowers for Maryland Weddings

I just read this fabulous article written by a floral designer who shows you step by step what's involved in flowers for your wedding day.  From your initial consultation with your designer to growing, ordering, conditioning, designing and delivering practices all the details are here in this article.  If you've ever assumed you could be tempted to do flowers yourself, ask your mom's best friend to do them, or questioned  floral designer prices, read on.  http://www.weddingaces.com/2010/01/the-cost-of-wedding-flowers-part-2/

I understand when a bride sets a budget for flowers but it's like budgeting for any other item, if you've never planned a wedding before then you really have no idea how much it will cost.  So meet early with your floral designer and glean from their experience.  After all, they've done this hundreds of times and have seen many styles, budgets, and venues.  They become your best secret resource for planning your perfect wedding.

I know it's backwards but part one of the article is here http://www.weddingaces.com/2010/01/the-cost-of-wedding-flowers-part-1/ and gives details about actually planting and growing each flower.

I look forward to talking to you about your wedding flowers!  It's my favorite subject and I'm passionate about remarkable weddings.

Spring Wedding in Silver Spring MD

Sharon and Jeremy planned this long-distance wedding with the help of her sister Ingrid.  I met with Ingrid and planned the flowers for this lovely March wedding.  The colors and blooms were perfect together.  White Anenomes with Black Centers, lavendar rose, and some extras to make it wedding worthy! Below are the bride's maid's bouquets all tucked into their delivery box and headed to the venue in Silver Spring, MD.

And here comes the bride's bouquet!
Ahhhhh......... so soft and lovely, yet classic.

Here's to many years of married life for Sharon and Jeremy!

Soft Champagne in Howard County Wedding Flowers

Soft Champagne was the color scheme for a bride who knew exactly what she wanted in flowers and design for her wedding at this favorite spot in Howard County, The King's Contrivance Restaurant. Close to Rt. 29 is a beautiful inn where it seems time stands still. Heather and Erick's wedding was an intimate gathering of friends and family but elegant in the details.

Heather's bouquet was designed with lots of texture and soft hues.
The reception center pieces featured Amnesia and Sandstorm roses, artichokes, and hypericum berries, seeded eucalyptus and other lovely flowers in glass cubes lined with leaves.

The cake was topped with flowers of the day including scabiosa pods.  Soft, softness, softer....

Heather was a gorgeous DellaBlooms bride.
Erick was our tallest groom yet and we almost had to stand on tip-toes to pin his cymbidium orchid boutonierre on his lapel.
Best wishes to Heather and Erick for a life-long beautiful love.
