Fall flowers in Clarksville Maryland

We recently met a local photographer at a wedding show and we both mentioned how much we'd like to work together on a styled editorial shoot.  Within a couple of weeks we had a plan to do a shoot in a beautiful field in Clarksville, MD with a beautiful model, some vintage items pulled together quickly.  Here are the results.  Brooke Tyson Photography

Nautical weddings

Weddings on the water attract a certain type of couple.  Those who love being outdoors and being surrounded by endless water scenery!  We've been doing lots of waterfront weddings and they are becoming some of my favorites.   Here's a wonderful portrait by the water  at Celebrations at the Bay by fabulous wedding photographer Lauren R Swann  If you want to see more of  this gorgeous couple Lauren captured their love in photos here Lauren R.  A completely different look was realized for Kristin and Matt with their choice of bright corals, pinks, and yellows with a dash of turquoise to match the water seen from the Anchor Inn.

Flowers whether soft and romantic or vivid and bright look amazing against a nautical backdrop.

Springtime

So happy the bulbs are pushing through the ground and there are no more imminent forecasts of snow.  Thinking of spring weddings and dreaming up bouquets and reception arrangements here in our studio.  Happy Spring wedding planning!

Thank you DellaBlooms brides in Maryland

Thank you to all our 2014 brides and grooms who allowed me to continue to pursue my passion.  I get excited about each and every wedding as they are all so unique.  From our initial meeting of sharing ideas to the delivery I find more reasons to be grateful to you who've chosen me to design your wedding flowers for your special day.

Farewell to our Faithful Friend

With heavy hearts and soggy eyes, we said farewell to our faithful shop dog in early November.  Shadow was the designated manager, because she would sit at the top of the shop steps where she could see each of us working.  It wasn't until later in her life that she began watching us work.  But when she discovered the perch at the top of the steps, nothing could tear her away from it.  No matter the temperature indoors or out, we left the door open for our furry supervisor.  She watched intently as we processed flowers, designed, and cleaned.  There was something about her companionship in the shop that added a calmness to our hectic wedding weekends.  Her steady gaze of approval was often just what we needed to keep on.  On certain days she requested to come into the shop.  Since she couldn't walk down the steps, this required a trip through the front door and into the garage.  She stopped to sniff each bucket of blooms and requested a head pat no matter how many stems were in your hands.  She plopped down, right in the line of traffic because she just needed to be in the middle of the action, and I imagine the cold cement floor felt good on her belly those hot summer work days...

The shop will never be quite the same without sweet Shadow girl watching our every move.

The DellaBloomies ready to help you plan your wedding

As DellaBlooms' 2013 fall wedding season wrapped up, we went out with a bang with not one, but two wedding shows back to back.  We had all hands on deck for these events and they were a smashing success!  The first show was at Shade Trees & Evergreens, where Clancy's wedding was held this summer.  The weather was a perfect day for being outside in the picturesque hills of Frederick, MD.

The second show was hosted by the Red Carpet Bridal Tours.  We set up at the first stop, Historic Oakland  in Columbia, and at Circle D Farm in Western Howard County.  Clancy and her friend Alissa were asked to wear their wedding gowns, of course they were thrilled to wear their dresses a second time!  Thanks to labirdiephotography for being at the second show to snap some pictures.  Dana also had the opportunity to speak on the panel at the end of the wedding show about current wedding trends and flowers.  Check back soon for a post to see just what those trends are!

Engagement Photos + Howard County, MD

I know I promised more wedding photos but first I wanted to post some Pre-Wedding photos or Engagement photos of a very special couple.  This engagement was planned from Ghana while the groom-to-be was there working for the summer.  He planned the purchase of the ring, the photographers to capture the moment, wrote his love letters, arranged for the driver and prayed it would be a total surprise.
 She was totally surprised!

 The ring fit perfectly!
Dinner was at the place they'd shared their first date.
Groom-to-Be asked both sets of parents to be there to celebrate with them.

The proposal was perfect and she said YES!  Love you two!

The Cost of Wedding Flowers for Maryland Weddings

I just read this fabulous article written by a floral designer who shows you step by step what's involved in flowers for your wedding day.  From your initial consultation with your designer to growing, ordering, conditioning, designing and delivering practices all the details are here in this article.  If you've ever assumed you could be tempted to do flowers yourself, ask your mom's best friend to do them, or questioned  floral designer prices, read on.  http://www.weddingaces.com/2010/01/the-cost-of-wedding-flowers-part-2/

I understand when a bride sets a budget for flowers but it's like budgeting for any other item, if you've never planned a wedding before then you really have no idea how much it will cost.  So meet early with your floral designer and glean from their experience.  After all, they've done this hundreds of times and have seen many styles, budgets, and venues.  They become your best secret resource for planning your perfect wedding.

I know it's backwards but part one of the article is here http://www.weddingaces.com/2010/01/the-cost-of-wedding-flowers-part-1/ and gives details about actually planting and growing each flower.

I look forward to talking to you about your wedding flowers!  It's my favorite subject and I'm passionate about remarkable weddings.
